Promoting the production of relevant knowledge in Public Administration in Brazil

 

Background

The Brazilian Society for Public Administration (SBAP) was founded on August 9, 2013, during the 1st Brazilian Meeting of Public Administration (EBAP) held at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in Natal. One month after its foundation, SBAP was presented to the academic community of Administration / Public Management during the XXXVII National Meeting of the Brazilian Academy of Management, held at Windsor Barra Hotel, in Rio de Janeiro/RJ. There several scholars and practitione practitioners joined SBAP as co-founders of the institution.

Since 2013, SBAP has carried out several activities to promote Public Administration as an autonomous discipline and to generate and disseminate theoretical and applied knowledge in the area. Among SBAP’s achievements are:
 
  • Eight editions of the Brazilian Meeting of Public Administration (EBAP) and three editions of the Forum of Graduate Programmes and Scientific Journals.
  • Recognition of Public Administration as a field of knowledge by CAPES/Ministry of Education, which is now called “Public and Business Administration, Accounting and Tourism”.
  • Participation in quadrennial evaluations of scientific journals in the area (Qualis/CAPES). 
    SBAP/ENAP Publications, co-editing of special issues for scientific journals.
  • Participation and representation in international events such as: CLAD, GIGAPP, ICPP, IASIA, and national events ANPAD, ENPP, ENECP, ENECAP, ENAPEGS, ANPOCS.
  • Institutional support for Public Sector initiatives: Residency Program in Municipal Management, Espírito Público Award, 2nd Sustainable Municipality Award, Observatory of Administrative Reform.
